The 5th Annual Scholarly Gathering for Imams and Preachers, organized by Al-Ahbash Association (جمعية المشاريع الخيرية الإسلامية), was held in Toronto, Canada, from May 2 to May 4, 2025

Representing the WISE Institute, Dr. Ali Unsal, the organization’s Deputy Director, participated in the three-day event, which focused on fostering scholarly dialogue and strengthening bonds within the religious community.

A central feature of the gathering was the comprehensive reading and commentary of the classical theological treatise “Al-Hath ‘ala al-Bahth” (Encouragement to Seek Knowledge) by Imam Abul Hasan al-Ash’ari, a pivotal figure in Sunni theology. The sessions were led by esteemed scholar Dr. Samir al-Qadi, who provided in-depth explanations and facilitated interactive discussions and Q&A sessions with attendees.

Reflecting on the gathering, Dr. Unsal highlighted its strict commitment to the Qur’an and Sunnah, the deliberate avoidance of political discourse, and the warm spirit of brotherhood and moderation that prevailed throughout the event. “It was truly refreshing to witness such a calm, intellectually grounded, and brotherly environment,” he remarked, noting that the scholarly tone of the sessions allowed for meaningful exchanges and a sincere sense of unity among participants.

On behalf of the WISE Institute, Dr. Unsal extended his sincere gratitude to Dr. Samir al-Qadi for his insightful scholarship, to the organizing committee for their generous hospitality, and to all contributors who made the event a success.

The gathering concluded with mutual prayers and heartfelt expressions of appreciation among attendees.
